CM Photography-NEW Favorite Web Page

My friend Tina, an immensely talented photographer, has created a Facebook page for her studio. It is called "CM Photography," and the link is listed to the right of this post under "favorite web pages." Please click on this link if you are interested in getting in touch with Tina. Her contact information is listed under "Info" on her Facebook site. In the meantime, I have included one of her gorgeous images to whet your appetite. Enjoy!

Protest Sweatshops!

If you are tired of cheap, shoddy foreign goods that seem to be the stock in trade of certain discount store chains, shop Etsy! Beware, however, of the sweatshop goods that are beginning to appear on that site, as well. Avoid anything with a price that seems too good to be true. Most likely, that ultra-low price is only possible because the items are being produced in factories where employees (and I use that term loosely) are subjected to inhumane working conditions. Items that are handmade tend to be a bit more expensive--but will ultimately last much longer than those that are mass produced in foreign factories. Please remember to shop responsibly!

Memorial Day

It is my hope that as you enjoy your Memorial Day parades and picnics this weekend, you will take a moment or two to reflect on the reason for the holiday and the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who fought--and continue to fight--to keep us free and safe. Thank a veteran--and give generously to the American Legion vets who accept your contributions at this time every year. Display your poppy proudly!

Holiday Giving

At this most festive time of the year, when you are preparing your gift lists, please remember the animals. Many, many families who are struggling with dire financial circumstances have had to give up their beloved pets to shelters, as they can no longer afford to feed them and provide veterinary care. It is my wish this holiday season that you will find it in your hearts to add some very worthwhile animal shelter organizations to your gift lists. If you don't know to which organization you should give, please click on one of my "favorite links." Thank you for your support of the animals, and Happy Holidays!

Grand Opening of My Etsy Shop!

Better late than never... After a lot of trouble with my current camera, I purchased a new one in order to take some decent pictures of my jewelry. I am still learning how to use it, so there are not a lot of jewelry postings at this time. However, if you are one of my FIRST FIVE CUSTOMERS, you will receive 10% off of your order and free shipping! As always, I welcome your feedback and hope that you will return to my Etsy site--and my blog--many, many times.

A Day at Eastern Market

A day at historic Eastern Market is a feast for the eyes--and the soul. Situated in the gritty urban landscape of Detroit, Michigan, one can find the most amazing fruits, vegetables, and flowers in one of the many covered "sheds" in the area--and then walk outside to listen to the street musicians or follow the delectable aroma of an outdoor barbecue to discover mouth-watering chicken and ribs sizzling on the grill. Today, for approximately $25, I purchased sweet peas, asparagus (two big, beautiful bunches for $3), a honeycomb and honey "straws", homemade tart cherry jam, a loaf of fresh farm bread, a small bag of Michigan maple candy, and sharp white cheddar cheese (my favorite).

If you are ever in the Detroit area, I highly recommend a visit to Eastern Market. One word of warning, though--get there EARLY, as it is a teeming mass of humanity by 10 a.m.! It is well worth the trip, however, especially for all of you artistic types who are inspired by the luscious sight of a perfectly ripe vegetable, a flat of flowers still glistening with dew--or people in all of their wonderfully colorful diversity.
